“An Artist Dream”
by: Sharon M Hayes

Down beneath thy heart and soul
Lies that which self cannot control
Desires fire when in the night
Can make the darkness turn to light

And from beneath the glow takes hold
It wells and swells till mind is full
Of colors oh so bold and bright
It gives minds eye creative sight

Now that which eye takes into air
Brushed on thy canvas once lay bare
Thoughts made whole and truths are told
by lines and shapes and colors bold

Set out to dry upon a shelf
Heart soul and spirit of thy self
Caught at glance by passers by
The colors dance and capture eyes

Much deeper than the eyes it flirts
An artists spirit takes new birth
And lives among the canvas sold
Which speaks to thee both young and old

Relations form when dream is hung
Felt differently by everyone
Tis desires cry to soul and heart
Which turns a painting into art

There he doth lie in poppy field
wounded heart
unwanted shield

Now schooled in loves serpent bite
his heart beats on
his spirit dies

How is it such sweet love took hold
to blind him from
the tarnished soul

Like unto in this bed he cries
red beauty seen
but poison hides

“Willow Tree”

Meet me 'neath the willow tree
at break of dawn I summons thee

Hear now my story never told
of how warm heart turns stony cold

See my breath in morning air
feel pains weight in heavy stare

A love of mine did live this one
committed now to time undone

With trust filled heart, world at her feet
her spirit danced, bright and sweet

Purest of souls to thee no measure
till one tempted with his pleasures

Wooed her with his gift of mind
teased her heart and poured her wine

In his arms her heart did lay
from dark of night till bright of day

When he'd had his greedy fill
he turned away and crushed her will

Her thoughts clung tight, to days no more
of soft warm sand on distant shores

Now story told, such fitting place
weeping willow, fall from grace

“Out to Sea with Dill”
by: Sharon M Hayes © copyright 2012

Another story never told
Of a handsome man, not young, not old
He took to sea with a sail of red
In search of dreams without a bed

Soon sunlight turned to clouds of dread
Winds that roar tore sail to shreds
Dill on his knees prays safe return
Instead awakes with sand-dune burns

Clouds give way to misty haze
And sounds of laughter, birds of prey
Dill lifts his head from deserted beach
And sees young Lady a-dance on feet

Black suit, braid hair, and lavender lips
She pours champagne as her welcome gift
They laugh till tears begin to form
Share words of kindness, bliss, and thorns

Dill swears to keep her safe from harm
And talks of how he’ll build a barn
A cabin with white stone for fire
A big brass bed for hearts desires

The sun shown bright that afternoon
Waves break to the sounds of 60’s tunes
Now bottle gone, black suit adrift
Lady swims beyond Dills skiff

Dill lay back to take a bake
Hears Lady scream and fears her fate
With breaststroke that could fetch a medal
He pushes on, meets with sea devil

A giant squid with suckers bold
Nearly swallowed Lady up in whole
Dill steadily on way back to shore
Spots Lady’s leg, and a bit more

As he clings to leg to stay afloat
He vows to cherish and boards his boat
Then suddenly a thud, then thump
Quickly turns to a massive bump

Dill hangs his head over bow to puke
And sees huge fish in a black swim suit
He grabs his pellet gun from its rack
And shoots the fish till on its back

Snatched the suit and ties to mast
Set to sail again at last
No wind, nor blow came round that day
But Lady’s spirit came to stay

She jumped aboard and said “Oh Dill,
I’ll need that leg to dance, I will”
Dill helped attach the leg and more
Then pushed the boat away from shore

Their laughter put the wind in sail
While music played on every scale
The moon came round and lit the way
They danced and laughed through New Years Day

Take thine hand but guard thy heart
For two are one until they part
Futures past hath tainted trust
Now true love returns to lust
Guard thy soul a safer bet
Eternal love in death is met
“Winds of Change”

The winds of change draw ever near
A whispered verse a bend of ear

Those drifting hearts may never find
Contentments bliss nor peace of mind

A soul once lost may be found

The life of choice a higher ground

Loose these strings let me be
Winds of change set me free
“In the Now”

In the now with no regrets
Upon my shoulder came to rest
The brightest white ones ever seen
This feather captured all my dreams

Eyes closed tight I send to air
Make a wish, a devil’s dare
Gentle wind that kissed my face
Swept my dreams back to space

Seasons passed but time stood still
Wishes made now fulfilled
Prayers of thanks I look to sky
An angel winks and feathers fly
